Accessing some of the SEAS computational resources, such as your group or personal drives on the network, will require a VPN (Virtual Private Network) connection if you are off-campus or using Harvard Wi-Fi (you shouldn’t need a VPN connection if you are wired in to the Harvard network). Using a VPN in general is a good idea, especially when using public WiFi networks, which are usually not password-protected, and such are not encrypted and susceptible to eavesdropping. A VPN connection encrypts all network traffic, which pretty much prevents eavesdroppers from stealing the contents of your data packets (e.g. passwords, credit card info, etc.).
