You have two options to participate in competitive sports on campus as a graduate student: intramurals and club sports. More information can be found at <http://dudley.harvard.edu/intramural-and-club-sports>

Additionally, there are department-specific team/leagues. For example, Wyss Institute has a few soccer and volleyball teams, and the Biolabs organizes beach volleyball games every summer (<http://projects.iq.harvard.edu/rhinoleague>). You should check with your department for details. If you do not find any group on campus that matches your interest or level, there are also many sport teams in the Greater Boston area that meet in forms of Meetups (<http://www.meetup.com/cities/us/ma/boston/>) and BSSC (<http://www.bssc.com/index.cfm/pid/11818>). If there isn’t one already, you should start one!
