Also called a Special Topics class, a 299r gives you the opportunity to work on a project with a professor that is different than your advisor. You can take this class up to two times and still have it count towards your degree. It is a good option if you want to start a collaboration with another professor, or if you are still trying to decide on which lab to work in. It is a good idea to contact the faculty you want to do a 299r with BEFORE the semester starts. This way, you can decide on a project and submit the project proposal in time for the study card day.
